There is a paradox in modern organisational life: the demands placed on organisations to be creative and entrepreneurial are greater than ever; and yet what we observe today are organisations in the grip of profoundly conservative and risk-averse managerial styles.
Today’s corporations have built up a plethora of routines for administering, aligning, measuring, monitoring, and correcting organisational behaviour—but a dearth of techniques for inventing, discovering, exploring, improvising, problem solving, or inspiring new ways of working or new opportunities for wealth creation.
